What does technology always blow up at the most inopportune times? Take today for example. A Saturday. No Work. The last real day off before a new week with work starts. Jade was at her Grandma’s so it was just Andrea, Asher and me. Sounds like a nice day to relax, or at least paint your wife’s dining room, right? NO! Instead, it was spent screwing around with my freaking iPhone, trying to upgrade the firmware. This would normally be easy, but I’ve got an unlocked iPhone, so nothing is easy.
I’m happy to report that i overcame THE MAN and got around the issue - though it is now nearly 9:00 in the evening. Needed to vent a bit…now going to watch the Colts….
I’ll be the first to admit that my relationship with Andy is odd in that he is equally as close with my wife as he is to me. HOWEVER, he often points out how lucky I am to have married her whenever we are together.
As further proof, go read what he had to say about her and my little girl this week during his mini-blog series “Women We Love - Andy’s Trip Edition”.
(I know, another lazy post, but I’ve had the last few days off of work AND blogging…and I enjoyed every minute of it!)
1) Leave A Comment For Asher- as most of you know, Ash came early while on vacation. As a result, we weren’t able to do all the traditional baby book stuff. Instead, we asked all of you to leave him a note for his baby book. Take some time to read through all the notes, and add one if you haven’t already.
3) Asher James Mills First Video - I loved this post, simply because of the technology involved. This video was taken from my phone, which I emailed to Andy to help post up within minutes after seeing Asher for the first time. We didn’t have our video camcorder (as we weren’t expecting a baby to be born at the time), but the low tech video accomplishes exactly what I wanted it to and we were able to share it all with you!
4) Asher And Adobe Lightroom - I’m beginning to sense a theme here…. Ash is quite a popular guy. This was shortly after I acquired Lightroom and shared some photos of the little guy
5) When Did My Baby Girl Start To Grow Up? - Don’t worry, Jade still made the top 5. This was by far my favorite post as is something I constantly think about as the beautiful little girl that changed my life forever changes in front of my very eyes… If you are a dad with a daughter, this is a must post for you to read as I’m sure you’ll relate.
As we come to the final days of the year, I find myself thinking about the same thing - what have I changed about myself to become a better husband, father, friend, co-worker, etc. Am I better or the same? Did I slide a bit? How did I grow? Its a tough conversation to have inside my head because this year I haven’t managed the same growth as I have in past years. I’m still trying to find a balance between work and home, with home getting the shaft most of the time. I’m still struggling with being a selfish husband and father, though I find my relationship with my daughter growing each day. Finding time for my wife has been difficult this year. The addition of Asher, a new home, a growing daughter, a successful job - all take time away from the one who makes me who I am. That needs to change.
Asher obviously brought significant change this year. He has changed my faith. He has changed my approach to life. He has given me a better understanding of what it means to fight - even at 5 pounds. I’d like to think Asher was the catalyst for much of my desired change this year and I believe he has had a similar impact on others. But more importantly is the change Asher has experienced himself. Brain damage to no brain damage. Breathing issues to healthy lungs. Developmental issues to ahead of schedule. He’s such a fighter - and despite all of those “battles”, he still manages to smile more than any other baby I have ever seen. He is truly an inspiration.
While cleaning up the new nursery the other day, Andrea came across one of his preemie sleepers and compared it to the one he just got for Christmas - holy crap. I forgot how small the little guy was!
I’ve been meaning to post video of our children interacting with each other. Asher has one unique and hilarious laugh and his big sis seems to know how to bring it out in him. The video doesn’t compare to real life, but I thought you’d all enjoy it!
As Andrea was putting Jade down for bed a few nights ago, she began to tell her very own version of the Christmas Story…only it was intertwined with Walt Disney to form one hot mess….
According to Jade, the Fairy Godmother told Cinderella that she was going to go to a ball in Bethlehem by means of a Magic Pumpkin.
How do you explain to a three year old that she may have blasphemed?
No, I don’t hate Christmas, just the freaking weather that surrounds Christmas in Indiana. We’ve been getting blitzed over here and it has me in a pretty pissy mood. In fact, I’ve been a jerk since we moved. Its probably the stress of not ever feeling like I can relax. Or not really feeling like the beautiful new home is home. Or because its friggin cold & dark when I leave for work and friggin cold & dark when I get home. Put all that together, along with how fast everything went and it brews up one hell of a storm!
Having said all of that, I am really looking forward to the next few weeks. A few days off to relax with family and friends can make all things better.
It’s days like today I wish I was still in highschool. Two hour delays were the absolute best. Nothing like waking up, only to find out you can go back to bed. Do you remember those days? Not only do you get to sleep in, but the school day is cut short. AND you don’t have to make up the day at the end of the year.
Today, in northeast Indiana, we are getting drilled with an icestorm that has caused poweroutages where my office resides. As a result, I experienced a nice delay of my own until the power is back up. Only this time, there was no sleeping in with two kids who don’t appreciate the beauty of delays. But they will, and it is at that time I will get even. I’ll come wake them up and make them get me breakfast and ask them to come downstairs to play with me. Oh yes, revenge is beautiful…..
